Shea Moisture is a skincare brand with over 100 years of history. Originating from Sierra Leone in 1912, they feature sustainable standards that continue to this day.
The company uses ingredients that are fair-trade, sulfate-free, paraben-free and more, whenever possible. They’ve tested their products on their own family for four generations, and not on animals.
If you are used to mud masks drying you out, you’re in luck because Shea Moisture’s Clay Mask is different from others. It includes Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Avocado Oil, as well as soothing Oat extract for soft supple skin.

What does this clarifying face mask do?
Clarifying masks like this one are designed to draw impurities and excess oil out of the skin. They can be great as spot treatments for blemishes, or as a once-weekly or once-in-a-while treatment to purify the skin.
The Shea Moisture mask includes Tea Tree Oil which has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, and Tamarind Extract, which is filled with antioxidants and vitamins such as niacin and copper, to nourish the skin.
So this is more than a clarifying mask, it is also a vitamin-rich mask.
Is Shea Moisture Clarifying Mud Mask good for skin?
Shea Moisture Clarifying Mud Mask is great for oily and acne prone skin, and it can help to dry out pimples post-breakout. If you have naturally dry skin, this is not the mask for you.
It’s especially good as a drawing salve for pimples that are large and full of fluid or skin that is out of balance and producing a lot of oil.
How do you use Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask?
Apply a thin layer to clean, washed skin, or the affected area, avoiding the eye area and lips.
Let it sit for 10 minutes or until fully dry then wipe off with a wet cotton pad or towel, and dispose of excess clay and cotton pad or towel in the trash.
Clay can clog house pipes, so we do not recommend washing the spent clay down the drain. Instead, when the mask has dried, simply wipe it off with a wet paper towel and dispose.
Should I use toner before or after this face mask?
If you use a toner in your routine, put it on before your face mask, but after washing.
Wetting the skin prior to applying a mask can help with penetration of the mask’s ingredients, so after you wash your face, apply your toner and then your mask.
How often can I use the African black soap mud mask?
It is best used sparingly, as needed, or as a spot treatment, no more than once a week. Our favorite way to use it is as a blemish spot treatment when needed.
