Where To Get A FREE Ham For Christmas Dinner
Updated 2024.07.30
I think we can all safely agree that FREE anything can simply be the best. It’s true that FREE items often do come with strings attached and rules to meet before you can unlock freebies.
If you can live with the strings and are going to meet the rules anyway, you should tap into all the freebies that life has to offer.
One of the best items you can get for FREE is food. It’s always useful and always helpful. Oftentimes during the holiday season, grocery stores are more generous in giving you food freebies to make your feasting festivities more affordable.
A great way to get a portion of your Christmas Dinner paid for is to be loyal to one store for your staples all month long. That way, you can rack up the spend limit needed for that store’s FREE ham, turkey or in some cases, as you’ll see below, vegetarian entree option.
Below are three grocery stores giving out FREE HAMS in December:
Giant
Enjoy a FREE ½ Spiral Ham or Ham Portion up to 14 lbs, Stouffer’s Party Size Entree, or a Tofurkey Roast, with 400 Choice Rewards Points.
This offer is valid 12/1-12/24, and redeemable from 12/8 - 12/24 in any Giant Food Store in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
To redeem, you must be a member of the Giant Choice Rewards Program, which is 1 point for every $1 spent, however, they often have “double point” weeks which allow you to stack rewards more quickly.
Lidl
Enjoy a FREE ham or turkey when you spend $500 in December; the regular price is $2.49/lb.
You can access this deal all month long in any Lidl in-store location in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
Weis Markets
Enjoy a FREE Smithfield Hickory Smoked or Brown Sugar Spiral Sliced Ham Now through 12/24 with 400 Weis Rewards Points. You must be a member of the Weis Rewards program to activate this offer, which earns 1 point for every $1 dollar spent.
Weis Markets are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
Why is Ham eaten on Christmas?
Ham is enjoyed on Christmas because according to lore, Christians were inspired by the Nordic God, Freyr, twin brother of Freyja, the God of fertility, harvest and boars. Here is the God Freyr pictured alongside a wild boar. In honor of Freyr and the harvest, boars were eaten during the Yule Feast time.
When Christians convinced the Nordics (sometimes referred to as “Pagans”) to become Christian, this feast day then moved to the 26th. However, over time the lines have blurred, the traditions have evolved and here we are.
Isn’t Christmas about coming together and celebrating each other’s differences afterall?
While we aren’t promoting any religion at Useful Roots, the history behind why hams are abundant and FREE this time of year is fascinating. Best of all, no matter what holiday you celebrate this time of year, anyone can get a FREE HAM so long as the minimum purchase requirements are met.
If you have one of these stores near you and shop there regularly, consider making it part of your mission to acquire one.
